Kim Leadbeater Announced as Labour Candidate in Batley and Spen

Sister of Murdered MP Jo Cox to Stand in Former MP's Constituency

Kimberly Leadbeater, the sister of murdered MP Jo Cox, will run as the Labour candidate in the Batley and Spen by-election.

Leadbeater announced her intention to stand as a candidate in the same constituency her sister represented before her tragic death in 2016. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of former MP Tracy Brabin, who was elected as the Mayor of West Yorkshire.

Leadbeater has been a vocal advocate for her sister's legacy and has campaigned against hate crime and extremism. She has also worked to promote mental health awareness and support for victims of domestic violence.

Labour's decision to select Leadbeater as its candidate has been met with support from the local community and political leaders. Labour MP Yvette Cooper described Leadbeater as "a tireless campaigner who will be a great champion for the people of Batley and Spen."

The by-election is scheduled to take place on July 1, 2021. Leadbeater will face competition from candidates from the Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and Brexit parties.
